DVDs In Production

Posted by David Lambert, TV Shows On DVD (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1072) 2/04/2004

We know how many TVShowsOnDVD readers want 21 Jump Street on DVD...and it's a LOT of you. This classic show aired on the Fox network in the late 80's/early 90's, and brought Johnny Depp into the public eye, launching him as a star. One of you, TVShowsOnDVD reader Susan Lulgjuraj, managed to do something that we here have tried to do, and weren't able to. We've looked for months for info from the Cannell Company, which is Stephen J. Cannell's business for the various TV series he's created and written, whether 21 Jump Street was planned for DVD. After all, Cannell himself failed to even bring up this particular show when discussing the topic in previous interviews (here and here).

Well, even though we couldn't get Cannell's business to admit to it, they did respond to a fan inquiry about the same subject. Susan asked the Cannell Company directly about 21 Jump Street, and they sent her this very encouraging response:

Dear Susan,
Thank you for your email! At this time we are working towards releasing 21 Jump Street on DVD. As we are in the beginning of the process, it will be some time until the DVD is released, so keep checking our website for further information and updates!
Sincerely,
The Cannell Company

It looks like we've got a wait in front of us, but it's good to relax a bit and know that DVDs are in production for this, and that sooner or later we will be able to enjoy 21 Jump Street on our favorite digital media. This is very welcome news to us here at the site, and we know for lots of you, too. Thanks again to Susan Lulgjuraj for getting the info, and for passing it on to us. Stay tuned, and we will keep a sharp eye out for further news and developments on this highly anticipated release!

Michael Bendetti News from Carolina Ribeiro (March 24 2002):  SPECIAL HOLLYWOOD ISSUE When Only an A-List Location Trailer Will Do By LESLEE KOMAIKO, Special To The Times

"I hesitate to use names," says Michael Bendetti, the man behind Bendetti Mobile screening theaters. "But the biggest director I know in the world used us and uses us." In fact, Bendetti says, many a big-name director has used his poshly appointed trailers, which rent for about $3,500 a week, to screen dailies on the set. Not only are they spacious, at nearly 800 square feet, they're plush, featuring wall-to-wall carpeting, oversized, upholstered tiered seats and extras such as hands-free loudspeaker communication with the projection room.

Who knew? Until Bendetti, 34, a former actor who appeared on "21 Jump Street" from 1990 to 1991, introduced the trailers in 1997, most directors schlepped to hotel rooms to screen dailies, he says. "Or they erected four walls on the set. And I thought, isn't this horrible. These are A-class guys and they're watching dailies in an inadequate place."

More recently, Bendetti has taken the location trailer to another level with a line of mobile "celebrity suites." "The theory on that," he says, "is that it was odd to see these major movie stars walking out of a trailer RV that any guy could buy and take on a camping trip. We decided to build something beyond anything they had seen." Among other enticements, the sleek, fully loaded luxury pads offer recessed lighting, wood cabinets, Italian tile bathrooms and satellite TV in the lounge as well as in the bedroom, and a full-service kitchen. "There's also an office on board, with a fax and a desk, so they can have an assistant," says Bendetti.

Transportable amenities seem to run in Bendetti's family. "My cousins are the Zambonis," he says. "They invented the ice machine. It innovated that industry, and I think we're doing that same thing."

Michael DeLuise News from "cszikora" (March 2002): Michael DeLuise ("Brooklyn South"), Alanna Ubach ("Legally Blonde"), Branden Williams, Jackie Debatin and Sam Jaeger have been cast in "Two Families," a tentatively titled comedy that revolves around what happens when a widower meets a widow, and two extended families come together. Ubach plays Valerie, the widow's daughter, and DeLuise portrays Valerie's fiance, Todd. Williams portrays the widow's son, Richie; Jaeger, the widower's son Philip; and Debatin plays Philip's wife. The widower and widow have yet to be cast.

News from Claire, Nov. 2001: Dustin's wife, Angela, was in a car accident on Sept. 2 (the same car accident that made the news when a former Power Ranger (Thuy Trang, who played the Yellow Ranger) died in it).  She was thrown from the car and suffered a spinal cord injury that has her mostly paralyzed from the neck down.  This happened less than two months before Dustin and Angela were supposed to get married.  Ain't life grand, sometimes? The better news is that they did get married, and she's getting some movement back in her arms even though the doctors thought her paralysis was complete. If you want to read the interview with Dustin, go to the Entertainment Tonight website.

The producers of Michael DeLuise's "Skydive" video would like to ask you a favor: "We are attempting round two, to get the movie Skydive: The Dream Becomes A Reality, with Michael DeLuise into Blockbuster. We need your help! People can go to www.blockbuster.com/ or call them at 1 800 441 4736 from 8:00 to 12:00am EST 7 days a week. To see the web page, people can go to http://www.skydivevideo.com and read about it for themselves. The more requests we get and the more geographical areas they are from, the better. If you do not get an answer, try again! You can also ask your local mom and pop video rental stores if they have the video, as a distributor is also handling the selling of tapes to them. Hollywood videos would be another good place to send an email request. Please make a request SIMILAR to the example below. (Do you carry SKYDIVE The Dream Becomes A Reality, guest starring Michael DeLuise, or do you plan to get it soon?) Thank You for your help."

Be sure to look for Michael when the NYPD Blue 1999/2000 season finale is repeated - Andy Jr. made another guest appearance.

Dustin Nguyen is featured in the Jan/Feb 2000 issue of "American Fitness" magazine - and he's on the cover. Great article! You can see this online at the AFAA (Aerobics & Fitness Association of America) Website

Don't miss Dustin in his regular lead role in the series "V.I.P."

Michael DeLuise is featured in the Dixie Chicks video for "Goodbye, Earl." As most of you know, Michael played Andy Sipowicz Jr. on NYPD Blue. His TV-dad, Dennis Franz, who plays Andy Sipowicz Sr., plays "Earl" in the video.

Yahoo News has reviewed this web site. Go here to see what they had to say.

Peter's newest movie, Southern Heart-- Go here to see all the official info! (and a LOVELY poster!)."Dustin Nguyen will be in the episode 'Flying Fists of Fury II: Masters of Illusion' of Kung Fu The Legend Continues on Friday, September 1, 2000. It airs on TNT in the afternoon. Check your listings. He is really cool in the episode." Thanks to Prairie Starr for the info.

One of Michael DeLuise's fans writes: 'Between the Sheets' is being discussed as an addition to the First Rites (independent movies) section at Hollywood Video Stores. I found their web site and found an address that I wrote to telling them that I would love to see the movie in their store. I got a response the same day from a Mr. Ben Riggsby the Director of Catalog Rental & Film Acquisitions. Perhaps if enough interest in the film is shown we could get it in the Hollywood Videos Stores. I thought if you're interested maybe you could post the following address and maybe people could send him a quick note saying they would love to see it in their stores. The email address is: BenR@hlyw.com. People should put a subject heading of First Rites Films.

Claire posted on the 21JS mailing list: "I just watched the (Hollywood Christmas) parade, up to the point where the V.I.P. cast went by (sorry, I just couldn't stand the tackiness after that :), and I noticed an amusing bit of synchronicity... Dustin drove by, under the marquee to the Mann Chinese Theater, which was advertising "Sleepy Hollow" starring Johnny Depp in three-mile-high letters. Hey, that's Hollywood!"

Keep an eye out for Johnny -- everywhere!! He's doing tons of press and promotion for Sleepy Hollow.

On Nov. 16, 1999, Johnny Depp received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Read all about it at the official Hollywood Walk of Fame web site.

Peter recently directed an episode of Stargate, in which, he cast his father, Dom Deluise. He continues to direct for the show and has even written an episode.

Dustin Nguyen is now a regular ("Johnny Loh") on the show and is enjoying himself, saying he gets to "look cool, ride a bike and kick ass, and a little romance." Peter DeLuise recently directed an episode of V.I.P.

Click here to see the prototype of the Ichabod Crane doll that McFarlane Toys will be selling!!! A VERY cool web site about "Sleepy Hollow" is here. Be sure not to miss the Oct. 1999 issue of "Premiere" magazine, which has some gorgeous photos of Johnny in character as Ichabod Crane. You can also go to the official Sleepy Hollow Web Site and order a movie poster, the doll, and more.

Don't miss Michael DeLuise in the PBS hot dog documentary!

Look for Holly Robinson-Peete in a new "Intimate Portrait" on Lifetime. It premiered Mon. Jan 10, 2000. The Lifetime Website has a bio of Holly at http://www.lifetimetv.com/onair/intimate/frameset.shtml/port9938.html, or you can read it here - go to the Articles Page.

Congratulatons to Holly Robinson, who begins a new season of "For Your Love" (WB) this fall.

Congratulations to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis on the birth of their daughter, Lily-Rose Melody, in Paris on Thursday, May 27, 1999

Michael DeLuise is featured in a videotape about skydiving. The tape is called "Skydive: The Dream Becomes A Reality" and you can ask for it at your local video store. They will have to order it before you can rent it, or you can order it yourself by calling (407) 504-6555. Michael, who performs a solo skydive in the video, likes the way it turned out, especially the music! See his page for my review of the documentary.

Claire had a brilliant idea! Let's try to get Columbia House to release the series on video!! She writes: "Columbia House - the video company - has an extensive webpage: (http://www.columbiahouse.com/repl/vl/tmpls/body_survey.html) In the Television section, they have a survey, and one of the questions on the survey is "What TV show would you most like to see on video?" or words to that effect. If you all are willing to take only a few minutes to fill out the survey, perhaps we can send a message to Columbia House that we want them to release the series on video. Obviously, there's no way to be sure it would work, but it certainly couldn't hurt! (It seemed to work, when the subscribers to a couple of A-Team lists all filled out the survey. The A-Team was just added to Columbia's library.)

Would you like to see "Between The Sheets"? For anyone who doesn't know, this is the movie that Peter DeLuise wrote, Michael DeLuise directed, and Michael Bendetti & Michael DeLuise co-executive produced it. It premiered in Sacramento at a local film festival. Michael is currently trying to get it shown on HBO and at the Sundance Film Festival. According to his fan club president, Michael would like for any fans who want to see the movie to contact HBO and Sundance to call and let them know you heard they are considering playing it and you would love to see it. Fan requests might get it on the air! Here is the ontact info: HBO: Gene Klines (212) 512-5036 Sundance Film Festival: Geoffrey Gilmore, (310) 394-4662, fax (310) 394-8553, website http://www.sundance.org

If you look REALLY close, in the Feb 6-12 1999 TV Guide, there is a tiny picture from Sunset Beat (in the George Clooney article). The last guy on the right, of course, is Michael DeLuise, who co-starred with him in that show. As always, I'm desperate for any or all episodes of this show. Just so you all know.

Here is the picture (left)Check out Holly Robinson's show "For Your Love" on the WB network (also on the national feed of WGN-Chicago). You can send mail to Holly at: The WB/4000 Warner Boulevard, Burbank, CA 91522. Thanks to Kelly Doyle for this info.

Michael DeLuise is in the Brian Setzer Orchestra video "Jump, Jive & Wail" and was featured in a recent issue of "In Style magazine in the photo spread of Titus Welliver's wedding - there's a great picture of Michael talking to Steven Bochco.

David DeLuise (brother of Peter & Michael) is currently a supporting cast member of the new NBC show "Jesse," starring Christina Applegate. He plays Jesse's brother Darren. You can see a neat bio of him at NBC: TV Central.

Would you like to send Michael DeLuise a Christmas email? Email one-line Christmas wishes to his fan club president at susier@aol.com before Dec. 13, 1998.

Holly Robinson will be in a TV movie, Nov 11, on the USA Network, called "Killers in the House."

Peter DeLuise has recently finished directing an episode of Stargate SG-1 called "Serpent's Song."

Peter DeLuise has recently finished directing an episode of "The Net," called "Harvest," (produced by former 21 Jump Street producer, Patrick Hasburgh).

According to PBS, the unaired episodes of Charlie Horse Music Pizza (Shari Lewis's show) will air during the 1998/99 season, but I don't know if Peter DeLuise's guest appearance is one of them.

On Saturday October 24th, Stephen J. Cannell, Emmy award-winning producer/creator of over 35 television shows (including 21 Jump Street, Booker, The Rockford Files, The A-Team, The Commish, and Wiseguy) and bestselling author of The Plan, Final Victim and King Con, will be conducting an exciting new online writing seminar on writerswrite.com: 1998 Stephen J Cannell Online Writing Seminar

"Between The Sheets" premiered at 9:30 PM Pacific Time, Sept 25, 1998, at the Sacramento (California) Festival of Cinema. After the movie, Michael DeLuise hosted a Q&A session. Peter was unable to attend due to work commitments, and I don't know if Michael Bendetti was there. The URL for the festival is: http://www.sacfilmfest.org.

Johnny Depp was named one of the "25 Greatest Actors Of The 1990's" in a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Holly Robinson's show "For Your Love" was picked up by the WB network for Fall 1998. It had been a mid-season replacement new show on ABC during the Spring of 1998.

Congratulations to Michael DeLuise! The 90's version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" won the #1 spot on VH-1's July 1998 1990's videos countdown. Michael appears in the video, sitting behind Wayne in the footage from "Wayne's World."

Richard Grieco - "A Night At The Roxbury" is scheduled to be released in October, 1998, and his other new movie, "Sinbad," will also be released this year. "Bolt" has been retitled and will be available soon on home video.

21 Jump Street - I have started a mailing list for fans of the show, for discussion, etc. Go to http://www.onelist.com and search for "jumpstreet" - then subscribe & introduce yourself.

Brooklyn South - Although the show has been cancelled, I have started a mailing list for discussion of the show. Go to http://www.onelist.com and search for "brooklyn-south" to subscribe. (NOTE: this list has been disbanded).

Johnny Depp - Although "Fear and Loathing" is getting mixed reviews, fans of Johnny need to see this movie - he is great in it. Keep your eye out for Johnny on TV and in coverage of Cannes.

Michael DeLuise - CBS has cancelled Brooklyn South, evidently choosing to totally ignore the fact that it is a quality show, it won a People's Choice Award for Best New Drama in 1997, and its bad ratings were due to erratic scheduling and misguided promotion. Meanwhile, Michael DeLuise's 1997 movie, "Boys Will Be Boys," has been released on home video. He plays Skip LaRue, in a comic role.

Holly Robinson - Holly is featured in the current issue of "Women's World" magazine.

Johnny Depp - Johnny's new movie "Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas" (opens May 22) will be featured on the May 24 edition of Siskel & Ebert's movie review show. Meanwhile, there is a Johnny Depp film festival in Atlanta in June and July. Johnny appeared on the May 11, 1998 edition of the PBS talk show "The Charlie Rose Show" and was quoted in USA Today ridiculing ABC's refusal to carry ads for "Fear & Loathing." Johnny also wrote something for Rolling Stone's May 28, 1998 issue (and there's a new b/w photo). Johnny has been extremely prolific lately - his listing at the IMDB has "The Astronaut's Wife" listed as "filming," while he has two more movies, "Just To Be Together" (also starring Andy Garcia, Winona Ryder, and Sam Shepard) and "The Ninth Gate" in pre-production.

Dustin Nguyen - Dustin Nguyen's new show, "Johnny X," in which he plays a martial arts hero, is said to be ready for a possible slot on the fall 1998 schedule for ABC, according to Broadcasting and Cable. More info can be found at Entertainment Online. Dustin is currently working on his new show, "Johnny X," in Los Angeles. It will begin in the Fall of 1998 on ABC. His Levi's ad was recently featured on an ABC show called, "The Best Commercials You've Never Seen...And Some You Have."

21 Jump Street - Beginning May 25, 1998, FX will add a daily (including weekends) viewing of 21 Jump Street at 9 AM. They will begin with #1 "21 Jump Street." To celebrate the Day Of Compassion this year, the 9 AM broadcast will be #26 "A Big Disease With A Little Name" (Season 2) and the 6 PM broadcast will be #89 "The Girl Next Door" (Season 5).

Holly Robinson - Holly and her TV hubby are featured in the cover story of the May 11, 1998 issue of Jet Magazine. The story has lots of pictures and is about her new show, "For Your Love," and they talk about how the show is hoping for success despite being a mid-season debut -- well, it happened for 21 Jump Street!

As of March 30, 1998, FX has decided to reinstate Season 5 to the 21 Jump Street syndicated run, beginning in August 1998 (the current run begins with #1 on April 1 and August will be right after Season 4 finishes up. We would like to thank FX for their gracious consideration of our request and the requests of those of you who wrote, phoned or emailed FX to ask for Season 5 to be shown. And thank YOU if you did so. If you would like to express your appreciation to FX for paying attention to what the fans wanted, you can write to them at FX, Box 900, Beverly Hills, CA 90213, or visit the FX Network web site.

Johnny Depp narrated a 3-night series on the Discovery Channel called "Top Secret." These were documentaries about the National Security Agency (May 11), Scotland Yard (May 12) and the Mossad (Israeli intelligence) (May 13).

Johnny Depp is featured in the Apr. 18-24, 1998 issue of TV Guide in a story called "TV Made Them Stars." The small story has a current photo of Johnny along with a photo of Johnny and Holly from 1987. There is also a small story about Brad Pitt which mentions his appearance on 21 Jump Street and has a photo from it. Both stories feature quotes from 21 Jump Street co-creator Patrick Hasburgh.

Holly Robinson's new show, "For Your Love," premiered Tuesday March 17 on NBC at 8:30 PM EST. She stars as Malena Ellis, a newlywed psychiatrist.

Johnny Depp filmed "The Astronaut's Wife" in Manhattan. Photos of him made it into issues of People Magazine and Rolling Stone recently.

Holly Robinson-Peete is on the cover of April 1998's Ebony Magazine, with her husband and children. There's a great feature article inside all about life with her husband, six month old twins and new TV show, "For Your Love." Lots of nice pictures, too.

Peter DeLuise has finished filming "Storm Of The Heart" in Texas and appeared in the Feb. 4, 1998 episode of "3rd Rock From The Sun" on NBC.

The 21 Jump Street theme song (revised version) is now available on "Television's Greatest Hits Vol. 7 Cable Ready."

Congratulations to Michael DeLuise and the rest of the cast of Brooklyn South on winning the People's Choice Awards for Best New Dramatic Series!
