21 Jump Street: Episodes In Order of Production

A list like this can be so much fun, especially if you are like me and like to try to track little things like plot continuity. Much thanks (again) to the keepers of the 21 Jump Street Episode Guide for acquiring this information.

Getting the production codes for the episodes has been very enlightening (see Episodes Listed In Order of Production). It’s amazing to me how an episode that is a 2 part episode can be filmed in two distinct parts, with four or five other episodes shot in between. It’s amazing to me that they were able to keep any plot continuity whatsoever, because the shows were broadcast so out of order. Some things make sense now, though.

Like in Season 4, the producers and/or network were evidently so worried about losing Johnny Depp that they held some of his episodes back to put in at the end in case he quit. If you look at the listing, you can see that in the last episodes that he shot, he barely did any police work at all. The last 21 Jump Street episode that Johnny Depp ever filmed was not #81 "Blackout," but #78 "How I Saved The Senator," which was a humorous show done in different styles of the actors’ own choosing. Johnny, fittingly, did a silent film. They went on to shoot four more episodes, but Johnny didn’t appear in any of those; instead, the producers used episodes that were left over from earlier in the shooting schedule.

And in another kind of booboo, #98 "Under The Influence" had McCann telling Capt. Fuller about a girl making him take off all his clothes & Fuller jokingly asking him if he was going to have to arrest him for statutory rape - a joke that shouldn’t have happened so soon after #96 "In The Name of Love," in which McCann was ordered by the FBI to seduce the underage daughter of a suspected drug dealer as part of his case, and all the problems that caused with Samantha (his ex-fiancee, whom he was trying to win back). But that’s what happened, because #96 was episode 16521, and #98 had been filmed first - it was episode 16517.
