Commentary:
John DeCarli: The plot here is not too deep, but it's a lot of fun. It's a nice, ensemble show. My favorite scenes are with Jenko and Mario in the driveway (messing up each other's last names) and with Hanson, Penhall and Ioki when they discover the car frame on fire. Ioki just goes to pieces, while Hanson and Penhall (and I suspect Depp and DeLuise) barely suppress their laughter. More good continuity: since Hanson was able to fix Hoffs' car in the previous episode, it's logical that he would know the answer to the auto-shop teacher's question in this episode.
Watch for Sal Jenco's first appearance here. He has a non-speaking role as Vinnie, one of the students in the shop. Also, the opening credits later this season show Penhall giving the "thumbs up" sign; the FX version edits this scene out of this episode.
