Commentary:

John DeCarli: Despite some interesting features, I think this is one of the weaker first season episodes. It's always nice to have an issue oriented show (in this case child pornography) and the "message" is handled reasonably well. Penhall gets off some good comedic quips ("does the same guy score all these films?") and Sal Banducci contributes a little something to the plot. Hoffs loses her objectivity and almost blows the case, but this seems acceptable for her character this season.

However, the plot seems thin. The "hearsay confession" business which Fuller uses to get a warrant to search the modelling school seems like just a weak excuse to move the story along. And the officers arrive at the filming "location" awfully quickly- although some edits in the FX version could have contributed to this. But the real problem, I think, is that Fuller must carry most of the main plot as well as the "son coming home" subplot. So Hanson, Ioki, and to a lesser extent Penhall, are really given very little to do. And that contributes to the impression that there's not much story here.

There is, however, one good inside joke. The porno tape-complete with bad lighting and easily seen boom mikes- contains a cameo by producer Bill Nuss as "Mr. Kay."
