Commentary:

Cyndi Glass: Anyone know if Hanson was the first character to say "son of a bitch" on television and not get censored? I like these episodes where they take off and do something like this, not a run of the mill bust-some-teenagers case. I like seeing Hanson/Depp be allowed to lose his temper. It also solves, somewhat, the question of how the Jump Street program lost its secretive status. Seeing Hanson and Jackie work together to trick Buckins was great as well.

John DeCarli: I’ve always liked this one but never really thought about why until now. It reminds me of those "guest star" dominated shows that they made a lot of in Season 4. But I think it’s better than most of those because they made the guests three-dimensional. We already know that Russell is a scoundrel. Louise comes across as bright and intelligent. I really appreciate that they made Louise’s father so sympathetic - not just your stock rich guy who doesn’t want his daughter to marry Russell. He really cares about her. And she loves him. Because of this, we can understand why Hanson goes to the trouble to help both of them. And because we know what Russell has done to Hanson in the past (signing him up for the Navy, etc), it makes sense that so much trouble was taken to get revenge. And Hanson’s sarcastic barbs are aimed at an appropriate target. I wish that some of those later episodes had characters who cared as much about each other; then maybe both the regular characters and the audience would have cared more too.
