L.A. Weekly Feature About Missing Persons Reunion
By Siran Babayan, July 12, 2001
As
we anxiously await the impending reunion of the original Duran Duran in the
very near future (this is not sarcasm!), the resurfacing of missing (since
1986) persons is good enough for fans of pure, unadulterated synthpop. After
only three albums, which spawned Mental Hopscotch, Words, and Destination Unknown
(the one Billy Corgan and camp covered) and made them the pinnacle of LA new
wave. Drummer and singer Dale Bozzio's ex-husband Terry Bozzio split to work
with the other artists, including Frank Zappa, and guitarist Warren Cuccurullo
went on to join the skeletal Duran Duran of the past 15 yrs, leaving Dale to
carry the band's torch alone. Dale's former Playboy days and the sci-fi
costumes that made her look like a walking microchip weren't nearly as
interesting as her voice. A mix of Boston and faux British accent, and the
ability to squeak, hiccup and sing at the same time, made Dale one of the most
truly unique female vocalists of the '80's.
